Neurology
Welcome to Riverhills
Healthcare, Inc. Neurology Division. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you
and your family. A Neurologist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats illnesses
of the nervous system that includes the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles.
Understanding an illness is often a large part of the battle. This is where we
begin your diagnosis and treatment process.
Your
Visit
Your visit starts with a discussion about your condition
with your doctor. As other illnesses often affect the nervous system, a complete
medical and surgical history is important. Since a neurological examination determines
how well the nervous system functions, it might be different than a routine medical
exam performed by your primary care physician.
For example, you may be
asked to walk, jump, bend or stoop to evaluate your balance and strength. Your
doctor may scratch the sole of your foot to check reflexes that are helpful in
evaluating motor function. You may be asked questions to determine your cognitive
(thinking process) status.
-You may be asked to have additional testing
and to schedule a return visit to discuss the results.
-We will send the results
of the exam and any tests to your primary care or referring physician.
-Your
Neurologist may have suggestions for treatment of your condition.
-Your primary
care physician or your Neurologist will carry out these treatment options.

Comprehensive
Services
Our Neurologists have a broad portfolio of expertise
including Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Peripheral Neuropathy, Epilepsy and Stroke.
Riverhills has its own Diagnostic Division where patients can be scheduled for
an MRI. Your MRI will be read by our on-site neuroradiologists who can instantly
consult with one of our neurologists.
Riverhills has EEG and Infusion Services
to help with accurate and expeditious diagnosis and treatment of some conditions.
The Neurology Division is fully supported by a Research Division which regularly
conducts clinical trials. You can feel confident that Riverhills Neurologists
are always on the cutting edge of new treatment options.
Should surgery
be one of those treatment options, Riverhills can refer patients internally to
any one of our board certified neurosurgeons who are part of the Spine Center
at Riverhills. The Spine Center offers both conservative and advanced surgery
options, pain management, disc decompression, and rehabilitation/therapy services.
The
Neurologists at Riverhills also understand that having a neurological disorder
can be extremely stressful on the lives of our patients. We have
a Clinical Psychologist to assist patients in understanding the psychological
aspects of their illness and how to cope during what may be a difficult time for
the patient, and the patient's family.
